To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Baroncelli collection, Mido is launching its first Caliber 80 chronometer to feature a silicon balance-spring

When classic watchmaking traditions meet cutting-edge technology. Fitted with a new COSC certified chronometer movement featuring a silicon balance-spring, the Baroncelli Caliber 80 Chronometer Si celebrates the collection’s 40th anniversary with unparalleled accuracy. As part of its constant quest for perfection, Mido decided to enhance its flagship movement with a silicon balance-spring. In addition to its anti-magnetic properties, this component, which is essential in luxury watchmaking, offers greater long-term accuracy than a standard balance-spring and better shock-resistance. Thanks to the Caliber 80, the Baroncelli Caliber 80 Chronometer Si also benefits from exceptional autonomy, with a power reserve of up to 80 hours. Beyond its technological prowess, this model is appealing for its pure, harmonious lines, which have characterised the Baroncelli collection for 40 years.

The Baroque-influenced neoclassical style of Milan’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II expresses all the sophistication inherent to the Italian architectural tradition. It was from these refined, rounded forms that Mido drew its inspiration for the Baroncelli. The subtle references to this prestigious building and its harmonious curves bestow both a rare sense of elegance and a resolutely timeless style on this iconic collection, which marks its 40th anniversary in 2016.

The Baroncelli Caliber 80 Chronometer Si is a discreetly elegant and refined model fitted with a new COSC certified automatic chronometer movement featuring a silicon balance-spring. As part of its constant quest for perfection, Mido decided to complete its flagship movement – the Caliber 80 – with this component, which is essential in luxury watchmaking. As well as offering increased resistance to magnetism and shocks, this balance-spring offers greater long-term accuracy than a standard balance-spring. The Caliber 80 also provides this model with exceptional autonomy: up to 80 hours of power reserve.

The new Baroncelli Caliber 80 Chronometer Si is appealing for its pure lines and highly sophisticated curves – all characteristic features of its timeless design. Measuring 40 mm in diameter, its round case in polished 316L stainless steel reveals an elegant white lacquered dial, which is also polished. The polished black applied indexes and double-sided black hour and minute hands (one side sandblasted, the other diamond-cut) contrast magnificently with the radiant white dial. The latter is protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal treated on both sides. An aperture at 3 o’clock also displays the date.

A perfect combination of classic watchmaking traditions and cutting-edge technology, the Baroncelli Caliber 80 Chronometer Si will delight all fine watchmaking enthusiasts, who will endlessly admire the chronometer movement – finely decorated with blued screws and an oscillating weight adorned with Geneva stripes and the Mido logo – through the transparent case back. The case back is protected by a sapphire crystal offering perfect visibility. Water-resistant up to a pressure of 3 bars (30 m/100 ft), the Baroncelli Caliber 80 Chronometer Si comes with a polished 316L stainless steel bracelet complete with folding clasp.
